So back in 2015, we began to toy with the idea of what we would call someone who liked to Boulder. The word Boulderer felt incredibly awkward to say, and looked even funnier on paper. When we would type it into documents, we would get the mean red squiggly underneath the word and we still do even to this day. Regardless, we were dead set on BOULDERER becoming a regular part of our language. We have printed T-shirts and bumper stickers and have made a huge amount of progress. About eight years ago, Frank Abissi from Higher Ground Climbing Gym wrote us and said that he had applied to Miriam-Webster and had received word that it was officially in the dictionary and a couple of days ago, another big thing happened. Our friend Willis from Provo, Utah sent us a screenshot of his New York Times crossword puzzle and in it was the word. I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn’t seeing things, but there wasn’t in front of me: BOULDERERS. I almost dropped my phone. So exciting! Wow!!! Let’s keep this effort going! Every time we get a little bit of validation it just makes us want to push even harder. Thanks for everyone’s support buying bumper, stickers, and T-shirts over the years and for continuing to support us in making sure BOULDERER IS A WORD.
